Frequently Asked Questions
Why and how to use Vélo-Transit
-
By reserving through the app, you’re guaranteed a secure parking spot upon arrival. Without a reservation, the “first come, first served” policy applies. If no locker is available when you arrive, you’ll have to lock your bike to an outdoor rack.
-
In the mobile app, use the search bar to find the bike station of your choice, or pick one directly in the map. Select an available locker, select the rate, and confirm the reservation.
The rental period begins as soon as you reserve a locker. Reserving in advance ensures that a space will be available when you arrive.
If you no longer wish to use the locker, please remember to cancel your reservation so that the space is available to other users.
-
Every municipality and location has its own rate. See the complete list of locations and rates on our website.
-
Yes. You can reserve a locker remotely, before even arriving on-site.
The rental period begins as soon as the locker is reserved. Depending on the location and the module selected, a free period may be included before charges apply.
The time elapsed between the reservation and the use of the locker is deducted from this free period.
Many locations also offer free parking periods ranging from two to 18 hours, depending on the locker and the area.
Some modules also offer monthly subscription options to keep a locker reserved on an ongoing basis.
-
If your bike is outside the locker and you can't open it, cancel your reservation. If your bike is already inside, do not cancel.
In either case, contact our customer service department at 1-844-388-8361, Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., or email info@velotransit.ca. No service requests can be processed outside of these hours.
-
Vélo-Transit bike lockers are 2.1 m (83 in.) deep. The width ranges from 27 to 29 in., and the height from 51 to 56 in., depending on the module. To make it easier to use the space, enter the bike rear wheel first. Most “longtail” cargo bikes should fit.
-
To ensure that as many users as possible can use the available lockers, the maximum rental period is generally limited to five consecutive days, except for users with a monthly subscription.

Vélo-Transit takes the protection of your personal information very seriously. Please review our Privacy Policy in the app to learn more.
Account and application
-
The app uses NFC technology to unlock the lockers. On Apple devices, NFC is available on iPhone 6 or more recent. For Android devices, go to Settings → Wireless & Networks → More to check if your device is compatible. Please note that the menu options above may vary depending on the model.
-
Go to the Profile tab at the bottom right of your screen. Enter your information, then confirm using the activation code you receive by email or text message.
-
The mobile key is a virtual key that lets you open the locker you reserved. You only need to create it once, and it can be used for all future rentals.
When you've reserved your locker, tap "Unlock Door," then tap "Continue" on the page that opens. Wait 20 to 25 seconds for the initial setup to complete.
-
Our locks use battery-free NFC technology. NFC stands for Near Field Communication.
This technology allows the Vélo-Transit mobile app to communicate directly with the lock via your phone. The power required to unlock the lock is supplied by the phone’s battery.
To unlock the locker, simply hold your phone flat against the lock, where your device’s NFC chip is located.
-
Make sure your phone has NFC technology and is placed flat against the lock, directly over the NFC chip. To find your NFC chip, tap "Unlock Door” in your reservation or use the "NFC Locator” accessible from your profile.
If the problem persists, call our customer service department at 1-844-388-8361 or email info@velotransit.ca, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
-
Tap "Unlock Door" in the app. Hold your phone flat against the lock where the NFC chip is located. Wait two to five seconds without moving the phone. A vibration and a green checkmark will confirm that the door has been unlocked. Then, turn the handle to open the door.
